Drought in Kenya - News from City Light Church, Kitale

News of the terrible drought in East Africa has been eclipsed recently by the riots in the UK but it is still very much an no-going problem. Jane Cocking, Oxfam’s Humanitarian Director, commented,

“This is the worst food crisis of the 21st Century and we are seriously concerned that large numbers of lives could soon be lost. People have already lost virtually everything and the crisis is only going to get worse over the coming months (www.oxfam.org.uk)

Many aid organisations in the UK have already set up appeals to help those who are suffering but indications are that things will only get worse in the coming months.

We are proud to have a number of international churches in the Synergy family, one of which is Pastor Enock Wnayoni’s City Light Church based in Kitale, Western Kenya. Pastor Enock recently conatacted us here at Synergy to let us know what his community is doing to help those in need:

We are mobilizing ourselves as churches and ministries in my town, raising funds to buy maize flour and beans and other things to take to the northern part of Lodwar and west Pokot in the next three days to help at least some few Christian families that are perishing from stavation. I know we can’t feed many for we don’t have much. We are requsting Christians all over to help feed other Christians, as Christ did, with the little they have. We will be travelling, if posible, next week.

Please keep Pastor Enock and the people of East Africa in your prayers at this time. It is a long journey from Kitale to Lodwar so we pray that Pastor Enock’s mission is kept safe and able to provide comfort, support and aid for those who are starving.
